FULL THRUST |
RUSH HOUR 3 ALPHA- a battle report. The inhabitants and colonists of System 3 Alpha already knew what it was like to be living next to a busy intersection. They also knew that in a galaxy filled with conflict and dispute things were not going to get quieter anytime soon. In fact what they could not realise was that one otherwise perfectly ordinary busy, noisy day was going to end up even busier and noiser than normal. This was the day when four hostile fleets simultaneously chose 3 Alpha's system as their route of choice... |

The FSE carrier dirfts through the ESU formation at speed

Arriving from the upper right quadrant (sector 1) was a massive Joan of Arc class FSE Carrier with full fighter compliment
en route to support the FSE 5th Fleet. Rather rashly she was travelling with no escorts.
In the lower centre (sector 3) was an ESU picket consisting of 2 cruisers, 2 destroyers and a Komarov Super Dreadnought with 1 wing of Torpedo fighters. Just above them was a Savasku patrol made up of a large construct and a smaller one And top left (sector 4) was a Kra'vak raiding force with 3 frigates, 2 cruisers and a dreadnought with heavy fighter wing. The FSE, realising they needed to take the initiative, headed at high speed straight for the ESU and launched all 7 of their fighter wings together with a missile salvo. This action successfully caught the ESU, who were preparing to cope with the more apparently immediate Savasku threat, off guard. The Sa'vasku meanwhile split their attention equally between the Kra'vak and ESU and sniped at both while using a nearby planet for cover. The Kra'vak, who initially seemed to want to target the ESU, had to adjust their tactics to counter the increasingly damaging Sa'vasku fire. A protracted and vicious combat followed between the FSE and the ESU while the Kra'vak and Sa'vasku postured. However the Kra'vak moved too close to the main conflict and soon found they were receiving fire from all directions. The Sa'vasku having remained in place for most of the battle were suddenly confronted by the ESU carrier but fortunately she was drifting too fast and had taken too much damage to pose a real threat. However salvos from the Kra'vak and the ESU had inflicted considerable damage on the Sa'vasku themselves. As the remnants of the 4 fleets finally limped away each commander pondered how things might have been different. Though some fared better than others this encounter was about survivors rather than victors.
Having ploughed through the ESU the FSE consider the new view. Not for long however - note the drift direction arrow.

unsuccessful attack run on the FSE Carrier.
The view from the bridge of an ESU Destroyer...now this might hurt a little!
