A FISTFUL OF TOWs

BLACK STORM RISING

LEOPARDS IN THE MIST - Part 1a
Fighting massed Soviet ground forces is fine but we wanted a hi-tech opponent to test those Challengers and M1 Abrahms on. So inspired by books such as "The Ten Thousand" by Harold Coyle and the capability and quality of modern German arms and equipment, we decided to create an on going scenario or setting that would allow us to pit a resurgent German army against other Nato forces. That is to say not as a campaign but more a backdrop to individual combat scenarios...

We make no apology for pitting The German Army against its NATO allies as our choice of protaganist is born out of a genuine respect for the quality of troops and equipment available to the serious 'what if' player.

British forces are positioned on the outskirts of the ruins of Hanover. Elements of NATO command need to be brought through the city under British guidance. The convoy is a high value target for the German government forces.

The objective for the British Commander is to meet the convoy and secure a safe route through the city, withdrawing with the convoy back to the line of control.

The German commander is obviously attempting to isolate and stop the convoy, repelling the British forces in the process.

You can download our original pdf of the British mission orders here.

Scenario Notes and Victory Conditions

1. 2 separate flights of missile loaded aircraft are available (1 strike each only) as per normal airstrike rules for the British Commander.

2. The convoy will halt at the edge of the city proper for 1 turn. If 2 or more British units are within 5cms the convoy will operate under the command of the British commander. If one or no friendly forces are within the vicinity the convoy will head off at normal movement rates in the direction of a scatter die roll. If the scatter roll is a 'HIT' the convoy will halt.

3. If at any time the convoy loses a unit it will again move in the direction of a scatter die for 1 turn until brought back under British command. (This rule reflects the fact that NATO generals, who are not necessarily British, always know best... so imagine a vehicle full of them!!!) If infantry are deployed at the time they will be left behind by their carriers.

4.Minor British victory is achieved if half or less of the convoy reaches the British Lines. A major victory if over half do so. Total British victory is measured by all the convoy units clearing the city limits and exiting the map via the road from the Industrial estates and remaining British units exiting the city limits to the line of control and resecuring that line.

5. Minor German victory is achieved by destroying some units of the convoy. Major German victory involves stopping (Pinned down indefinitely etc)or destroying the convoy, in particular the Hummv's and jeeps.
